As many of you know, in late March 2020 Jason and I choose to close our office in Warrensburg due to the difficulties of COVID-19. At the time we were unsure what would happen—not knowing when or if we would be able to re-open our doors.
Jason and I have been able to take the time to think about what was next for Carpenter Physical Therapy. Reflecting on the last 14 years is why I want to share the history of CPT and why we have ultimately decided to go back to our roots.
THE HISTORY OF CARPENTER PHYSICAL THERAPY
The CPT story begins after I completed my doctorate in Physical Therapy and working as a contract physical therapist at multiple clinical settings across the country. In 2006, we purchased land on the intersection of Rt 9 and 28 on the northern end of town. My intention was to have a part-time P.T. office and a full-time Wellness Center, while continuing to work part-time with my brother, Ed to prevent injuries in the arborist and industrial athletic trades.
I moved back to my hometown in 2007 with my husband Jason with a vision of creating a physical therapy practice dedicated to giving patients the care they deserve. We opened Carpenter Physical Therapy in Warrensburg and began seeing patients at a temporary office location on Rt 28 next to the property we purchased. It was a big year for us because it was that August that we adopted our beautiful Labrador pup Leica from a local friend.
My market research did not account for the number of active, retirees that lived part-time in the southern Adirondacks and my small, part-time practice quickly grew. Jason would take on the active role of practice manager. We outgrew our little 2 room location on Rt 28 and were held up with the Adirondack Park Agency permit approval. So, we purchased our current location at 28 Hudson Street in Warrensburg.
We are committed and driven to provide our patients with the highest quality of care. Our mission is to not only reduce pain & assist our patients during their episode, but to educate on the many factors that could be contributing to their biomechanical issues and empower patients to take control of their bodies & health. We believe our holistic approach to each episode is what ensures each episode of care is successful.
AND WE CONTINUED TO GROW…
In May 2009, my mom, Sheila left her job at House Calls Pharmacy to become our receptionist, and friend and colleague, Diane Arzberger-Goodman, PTA joined me as a physical therapy assistant. In 2013, my father would coordinate and build an addition to the 28 Hudson Street location, and we continued to grow, adding practitioners and seeing more patients. The third-party insurance administration and management required long after hours and many headaches for very low reimbursement. Despite the challenges with third party reimbursement, I refused to compromise the quality of care provided by Carpenter Physical Therapy, therefore we ran a very tight bottom line.
GOING BACK TO OUR ROOTS
After a lot of thought I have chosen to return to our original 2007 plan to have a part-time P.T. practice, while continuing my work with COR Health Solutions as a health coach and functional genomic consultant to optimize human performance.
I believe our heart’s desire is the destiny of our health and vitality. This is why I am inspired to offer coaching programs through Leadership of Vital Energy. Helping overwhelmed professionals on the verge of burnout discover and develop their personal leadership talents in order to connect to their physical health and vitality.
As a Foundational Health Educator and Transformational Leadership Coach, I want to walk beside people on their journey to vitality, helping them create a meaningful and purposeful life.
